I facilitate, speak, and consult with organizations throughout the United States to help people talk with one another in constructive and productive ways. I have worked “in the trenches” for over twenty years with healthcare, education, manufacturing, and non-profit organizations, particularly in the areas of continuous improvement, communication, and strategic planning. I love the opportunity to work with so many different people with diverse backgrounds and interests. One day I'm with a religious community, another, educators, and yet another health care teams or executives.

The work I do is all about connection, integration, and skill building—of the individual workgroup members as well as the workgroup as a whole. In order to create a cooperative working environment with an orientation toward getting desired results, we have to see ourselves as part of a larger system, with each person contributing in harmony to the whole. We also have to develop skills to maximize our ability to talk and reach agreements with one another so that everyone is focused on what's really important and in sync with how and when the work gets done.

My specialty area is helping workgroups explore what they need to talk and reach agreements about in order to do their work. I help them set the stage for productive conversations and then facilitate the actual conversations. I also help them concretely plan for how to keep these conversations ongoing, so that they become an integral part of their work and not just one shot deals.

I have extensive experience in leadership development and have worked with hundreds of healthcare executives and managers. From 1989-1996, I co-developed and served as the Project Manager of a cutting-edge national executive development program for clinical leaders from the Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs. These three-week leadership programs were specifically designed for physicians and other healthcare clinicians transitioning into the role of clinical executives.

I have a Doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Akron, a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Youngstown State University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ohio University. In 1992, I founded Focus Consulting Group, a firm established to help groups improve their capacity and skills to work collaboratively.

My volunteer work includes serving as the current Board President of the Crown Point Farm & Education Center in Bath Ohio. I have previously volunteered at Gennasarit, a local hunger center and served on the Board of the Medina Summit County Land Conservancy, both located in the Akron, Ohio area.
